Chores and Allowance

We have entered a new stage in our parenting world...CHORES and ALLOWANCE! As the kids are getting a little older they have begun to want more things. Paul and I thought they are getting to an age that they should have a little more responsibilities and be held accountable for said responsibilities. So, we have introduced the concept of chores and allowances to the kids.
Kids must clean rooms and make beds every day, fold laundry and put it away and put away back backs and other items that are dragged in everyday as soon as they get home. The have a set of weekend chores, as well.
We have told them they can then save their allowance until they save enough to buy an item they have been wanting. We will take them shopping once a month and if they want to spend the money they can...if not- they can save until the next time.
I think the concept is great. It teaches them responsibility and the value of saving money. I am just wondering how quickly the newness will wear off and we will be fighting over clean rooms again?
